In previous posts I’ve written about a prominent and well-known pastor here in the Atlanta area. His name is Charles Stanley. I watched a TV special about him last night where a local reporter did a 30-minute interview with him. Dr Stanley comes across as a very humble man but is very passionate about his relationship with the Lord. At 80 years old he is still preaching and writing books. He has also contributed information (Life Principles) to a bible that is called the Life Principles Bible. This bible is not a rewrite of God’s word. What Dr. Stanley has done is give 30 Life Principles in which to live by. These principles are rooted in God’s word.
At the end of last night’s interview with Dr Stanley, the reporter asked him what one thing has been most important and contributed to his life long love of the Lord. Dr Stanley replied, “Obey God and leave all the consequences to him.” He said when you do that your life takes on a whole new meaning. You can live without regret, fear or any other negative emotion because you know when you obey God he will take care of you.
As I got ready to retire last night I prayed and asked God to help me always obey him and leave the consequences to him. I realized in order to do this I needed to trust God implicitly or in other words have stronger faith. As I prayed I realized my faith was not as strong as I thought it might be so I prayed and asked for more faith. God’s word says he will give you as much faith as you need. Living the life of a Christian requires one to have and walk in faith daily. Without faith it is impossible to please God.
When you apply this principle of obeying God you will begin to obey God with confidence and joy, knowing that He can be fully trusted to keep all His promises. There is no way to go wrong if you place your hope and trust in God. He created you and He loves you with an eternal love. Therefore, you are His greatest concern and the apple of His eye. Whenever you have a problem and are in doubt on what to do, wait on the Lord for an answer to your problem. Refuse to move ahead unless you know that God is leading you. When you saturate your mind with the Word of God, you gain God’s viewpoint. When a temptation comes, you will know right from wrong and can act accordingly. In other words you will obey God.
Disobedience always has fierce repercussions. It sends a message to the Lord, declaring that we know better than He does when it comes to our lives and the circumstances surrounding them. God loves us and is committed to us. He commands our obedience, not because He is a strict taskmaster, but because he knows the devastating effect that disobedience and sin will have on our lives. We have one true enemy who has nothing but our destruction in mind when we are disobedient. As I have said before, the enemy is relentless in his game plan to destroy you. Your destruction will result in spending eternity in hell separated from the love of our Lord God. But, when you obey God on a daily basis and live your life based on His commandments you won’t have to worry about your eternal destination.
Your fellowship and obedience to God is more important than anything else you can think of. Place your life in God’s hands, obey Him and then leave all the consequences to Him.
